Attendance

Lectures: Perfect attendance at lectures will earn you ten extra points for the quarter.

Labs:You can not make up missed labs, but a ten-point bonus lab is offered near the end of the quarter.

Extenuating circumstances: Sometimes illness, a family crisis, or other serious event interferes with a student's ability to perform. Perfect attendance means perfect attendance if you are to qualify for the bonus. But even so, if you're missing classes, please talk to me. I will help you manage this course better, and perhaps I can direct you to the campus resources and services you might need.

Grading

I use a point system. Assignments, labs and tests together earn points to total 500, not counting the possible 20 bonus points. Study the grading forms posted on each assignment. They will guide you.

Remember this is a core course. You must make C or better.

Other Policies

Presentation: All work must be typed to be accepted for grading.

Deadlines: Work must be on time and is due at the beginning of class. Late penalty is eight points per day up to the value of the assignment. Turning in work early is allowed.

Style: Study Just Citations for formats. In other situations, MLA is preferred. Manuals are available at local bookstores or at the library reference desk. Style Web sites are in the Reference section of the J233 Resources site too.

Ethics: Fabricating assignments, mutilating library property and cheating on exams are violations of the Student Code of Conduct. Violations will result in a failing grade and the Director of Judiciaries may be notified. Plagiarism for this course is defined as any unattributed copying of material from any source, no matter how brief. This includes material from online sources. The Fair Use conventions of copyright law permit you to use material from any source, but you are expected to fully cite your sources in your writing.
